BACKGROUND STORY
This coffee is from Bernard Mugo, a 34-year-old young man from Sagana with a captivating story. Sagana is located in Kirinyaga County, a small old town which sits snugly along Kenya's longest river, Thagana, from which it got its name.
Benard moved to Nairobi in search of a job like what any other young man of his age would do. He applied for several jobs in several companies with no luck, he decided to return home in 2015 to engage in coffee farming. Now he owns a coffee farm named JM Kanji Farm. Benard’s story is fascinating and encouraging because most young people of his age are migrating from Rural to urban areas in search of jobs because they believe farming is for the older generation and do not consider it to be profitable.
Benard’s decision not only changed his life but also positively impacted his community by providing much-needed jobs. Today, Bernard is a successful green coffee exporter. He dreamed big, worked hard, and made it happen.
PROCESSING METHOD USED
Bernard's coffee at Farm is produced using the washed process, which involves removing the fruit pulp from the beans before drying.
WHY IS THIS COFFEE SPECIAL
The coffee from JM Kanji Farm stands out for its exceptional quality, rooted in the rich soils and ideal climate of Sagana. Bernard, the farm's founder, has always believed that great coffee begins with the best practices on the farm. From the very start, he focused on sustainable farming techniques, using organic methods to nurture the coffee plants. This careful attention to detail has resulted in beans that are not only flavorful but also environmentally friendly.
What truly makes JM Kanji Farm’s coffee special is the unique flavor profile that reflects the terroir of Sagana. The beans are handpicked at peak ripeness, ensuring only the best cherries are selected. After harvesting, the beans undergo meticulous processing, preserving the rich, complex flavors that have become the farm’s hallmark. The final product is a coffee with berry notes, creamy, lingering chocolate finish.
