We did not start selling coffee to sell coffee, but to organize the coffee chain in a radically different way.
An important part of our FairChain rebellion is that coffee is processed in the countries of origin, so that more of the profits are left behind and employment is created to offer young people a proud future, independent of development aid.
We have been doing this with our coffee beans since 2012. And now also with our capsules!
But why only now?!
We waited until we could ALSO produce the capsules in the country of origin. So your capsules are not only biodegradable, but also 100% FairChain and help the farmers to get a living income. Taste the capsules and contribute to a coffee value chain where everyone wins!
UGANDA | KASESE | 2,000M
Our farmers grow the specialty coffee on the border of the oldest national park in Africa: Virunga national park, located on the border of Uganda and Congo.
CONGO | KIVU | 1,500M
The coffee-growing area extends along Lake Edward and the Virunga National Park.
Organic farming is paramount, which is why our farmers from Uganda and Congo are members of a cooperative. This cooperative has achieved international standards for organic certification and now leads an organic partnership with more than 2,300 small coffee farmers.
After the harvest, the farmers in the area bring their ripe, red berries to the wetmill of the Virunga cooperative. The berries are washed and, for best quality, slowly dried on drying beds. In this process, the farmers extract the green bean from the red currant.
The roasting and packaging takes place in Kenya. The roaster has designed a special roasting profile for every taste, so that you drink the coffee as it was intended.
By roasting and packaging the coffee in the country of origin, we have a fair relationship between producers and consumers. By moving these value adding activities in the coffee chain we make sure we can have a positive and radical impact on millions of people.
To be able to shout from the rooftops that these are 100% FairChain capsules, the capsules must also be packaged in the coffee belt. That is why we have ensured that the capsules can be made in Kenya. This creates jobs and ensures economic growth.
That is FairChain impact!
Cups are completely biodegradable, which means that they fall apart within 8 weeks after being thrown away. Get rid of those aluminum cups!
